Assets
Use Assets for things you track over their life: tools, carts, cages, returnable containers, test equipment. An asset has a name and an asset tag number (your own reference, like TL-0042), an optional category, and usually a tag attached to it.
Adding an asset
Choose Add asset, give it a name and asset tag number, and optionally a category and the EPC of the tag fixed to it. With an EPC, Titan starts tracking where the asset is the next time that tag is read.
What an asset shows
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Status | available, checked_out, missing or retired. |
| Zone / Dwell | Where it is now and how long it has been there. |
| Custodian | Who has it, while it's checked out. |
| EPC | The tag attached to it. |
| Last seen | When its tag was last read. |
Check-out and check-in
Check out an available asset to a person by entering the custodian's name. You can also record when it's expected back, but only through the API. Check in when it returns, which clears the custodian.
An asset that's marked missing can also be checked out. If someone turns up holding it, that settles where it is.
Missing assets
If an available asset's tag hasn't been seen for 10 minutes, Titan marks the asset missing and opens an alert. The moment its tag is read again, it goes back to available and the event is recorded as "found".
Checked-out assets are never marked missing, because Titan expects them to be away. That's another reason to check assets out rather than just letting them leave.
Timeline
Each asset has a timeline of everything that happened to it: created, renamed, checked out and in, entered and left zones, went missing, was found, was retired. Each entry has its time and, where it applies, the zone.
Retiring
Retire an asset that's gone for good: scrapped, sold, lost beyond hope. Retired assets drop off the list and are never marked missing. Their history is kept, and their tag is released so you can reuse it.
