Tag Data

Tag Data is a spreadsheet. Each row is a tag (an EPC). Each column is a field you've added. You don't declare a schema, pick types or fill in required fields beyond the EPC itself.

The sheet also shows each tag's current Zone and when it was Last seen. It lists the 500 most recently seen tags. Use the search box to find others: it matches EPCs and any field value.

Columns

  • Add a column with + Add column. Give it a name like "Unit price", and Titan stores it under a key like unit_price. Keys are lowercase letters, digits and underscores.
  • Rename a column or Delete column from its header menu. Deleting a column removes that field's values from every tag.
  • Use as tag name. One column can be the name column. Its value is how a tag is labelled on Live Reads, Inventory and elsewhere. Without one, tags are shown by EPC.

Columns also appear automatically when you import a CSV or write data through the API with a field that doesn't exist yet.

Editing values

Click a cell and type. Titan works out the type silently:

You typeStored as
42, 3.5, -7a number
true, yes, false, no (any case)true / false
00789, 0450text, because a leading zero means it's a code, not a quantity
anything elsetext

Clearing a cell removes that field from the tag. The old value goes into history.

You can add data for an EPC that hasn't been read yet. When the tag is first seen, its data is already there.

History

Each row has a history link. It lists every value each field has held on that tag, with the time it was set and, for past values, when it was replaced. Nothing is lost when a value changes. When a tag is reused for something else, the trail of what it used to be stays with it.

Importing a CSV

Choose import CSV and pick a file.

  • The file needs a header row with a column called epc (in any case).
  • Every other column becomes a field. Header names are turned into keys the same way as added columns: Unit Price becomes unit_price.
  • EPCs must be 8 to 64 hexadecimal characters. They're stored in uppercase.
  • A blank cell leaves that field alone. It does not clear it. That way you can import a file with just epc,bin to update bins without touching anything else.
  • Each EPC may appear once per file. Later duplicates are reported as errors and skipped.
  • Up to 100,000 rows and 64 MB per file.

You can do a dry run first. It checks the whole file and reports what would happen without changing anything. The report shows how many tags would be imported (new) or updated (already in Titan), which fields it found, and every problem row with its line number and the reason.

Rows with problems are skipped. The rest of the file still imports.

Exporting

export CSV downloads every tag with its current data, one column per field. It's the same shape the importer accepts, so you can export, edit in a spreadsheet and import again.

Deleting tags

Select rows and choose delete N selected. This forgets those tags completely: their data, history, read history and location. If a deleted tag is read again, it comes back as a new tag with no data.

Use this to clear out test tags or tags that have left your operation for good. It can't be undone.
